I Am Legend

Steven Caple Jr. Reportedly Eyed To Direct ‘I Am Legend 2’

Warner Bros. may have finally found a director to helm their long-gestating I Am Legend sequel. According to Deadline, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts filmmaker Steven Caple Jr. is being eyed to direct the film.

Screenwriter and producer Akiva Goldsman teased news for the film on Thursday; however, Caple Jr.’s involvement is not official. As of now, the director is not attached to the project, as the studio has reportedly met with a handful of directors. But if he does join the film, this would reteam him with Creed II star Michael B. Jordan, who is set to star alongside Will Smith.

Goldsman recently confirmed that the sequel would pick up after the events of the original’s alternate ending, in which Smith’s character lives. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo via Outlier Society are producing the film alongside Smith and Westbrook Studios Co-President/Head of Motion Pictures Jon Mone.

Caple Jr. made his feature directorial debut with The Land in 2016 and has since directed Creed II and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. He is currently set to direct the first two episodes of the Man on Fire series for Netflix, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
