New ‘Mortal Kombat’ Film Gets 2021 Release Date

Hot off of Mortal Kombat 11‘s successful launch last month, Warner Bros. has set an official release date for the brand’s long awaited return to the big screen. A new film based on the popular fighting game franchise is set for release on March 5, 2021 according to Deadline.
Produced by Aquaman’s James Wan and guided by first time director Simon McQuoid, the film has entered production on its South Australia set. This will be the third film based on the series, following 1995’s Mortal Kombat and 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.
Interestingly, the film will be going head to head with Sony’s Masters of the Universe reboot that very same weekend. It’s likely that one of the two might end up switching dates, common for situations like this. Mortal Kombat has experienced somewhat of a resurgence in recent years, so its sure to give He-Man some strong competition.
