Beyond the film focusing on an adult Aang and his friends, little of the plot is known. Previous reports have suggested it will be an original story rather than adapt one of the graphic novels.
The film was first announced during San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Avatar Studios is helming the movie under the leadership of Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the original creators and executive producers, who run the studio as co-chief creative officers, reporting to the President of Nickelodeon Animation, Ramsey Naito. Avatar Studios will produce content for Paramount+, Nickelodeon, third-party platforms, and theatrical releases.
