Donald Glover To Play Hypno-Hustler In ‘Spider-Man’ Spinoff Movie

WAfter years of being somehow attached to the Spider-Man franchise in a variety of ways, the incredibly talented Donald Glover is getting his own starring vehicle within the Marvel realm. As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Glover will star in and produce a new film from Sony Pictures focusing on Hypno-Hustler, a member of Spidey’s extensive rogues gallery.
Per the initial report, Glover will portray the villain as well as serve as the film’s executive producer. Eddie Murphy‘s son Myles Murphy will pen the screenplay for the project with Sony handling financing and distribution. The new film joins movies like Venom, El Muerto, Kraven the Hunter, and Madame Web in the lineup of films based on Spider-Man villains in the works at Sony.

Created by Bill Mantlo and Frank Springer, Hypno-Hustler first appeared in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #24 in November 1978. Real name Antoine Delsoin, the villain can perform hypnosis with the aid of his guitar. When teamed with his backup band, The Mercy Killers, can perform mass hypnosis. His boots can emit knockout gas on demand and have retractable knives in the soles.
Donald Glover, AKA Childish Gambino, is an extremely versatile actor. Gaining fame in the NBC sitcom Community, the actor touts a starring voice role in Disney’s live-action The Lion King as Simba. Moreover, Glover recently wrapped up the fourth and final season of the historic FX series Atlanta, which he co-created. Up next, the Golden Globe and Grammy winner is rumored to reprise his role as Lando in a Disney+ Solo spinoff series. Additionally, Glover will star alongside John Turturro and Paul Dano in Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith series.
