Daisy Edgar-Jones To Play Carole King In Musical Biopic ‘Beautiful’

Following the success of hit films like In The Heights and Tick, Tick… Boom! another beloved Broadway musical is getting the big-screen adaptation treatment. As first reported by Variety, Daisy Edgar-Jones has signed on to portray singer-songwriter Carole King in the upcoming movie adaptation of the stage musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.
Academy Award nominee Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right) will direct the film with a script she adapted alongside Stuart Blumberg. Cinematic icon Tom Hanks will serve as an executive producer of the film alongside Paul Blake, who also produced the Broadway musical. In a statement accompanying the initial report, Carole King herself expresses her excitement about Edgar-Jones stepping into her shoes for the film.
“Daisy has a spirit and energy that I recognized as myself when I was younger. She’s a tremendous talent and I know she’s going to give a great performance,” King says.

With a book by Douglas McGrath, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical tells the story of the early life and career of Carole King, using songs that she wrote. The show was nominated for a bevy of Tony Awards with Jessie Mueller winning the trophy for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical.
Daisy Edgar-Jones is a Golden Globe Award-nominated actress best known for memorable roles in hit TV shows like Normal People and War of the Worlds. In 2022 alone, the actress starred alongside Sebastian Stan in Fresh and the film adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing. Additionally, Edgar-Jones notably steals the show from Andrew Garfield in the award-winning miniseries Under the Banner of Heaven.
