A live-action television adaptation of the hit video game franchise God of War has officially been ordered at Amazon Prime Video. The Wheel of Time‘s Rafe Judkins is set to serve as showrunner.
Based on the 2018 game the show will follow Kratos, the God of War, who exiled himself after his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece. Having hung up his weapons forever he is living in the Norse realm of Midgard with his son Atreus after the death of his beloved wife. Their journey to spread her ashes soon turns into an epic quest that will test their bonds as they battle gods and monsters.

Judkins is set to serve as showrunner and executive producer. Iron Man and Children of Men writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby will also write and executive produce. In addition, Santa Monica Studio’s studio creative director Cory Barlog will also serve as executive producer, along with Playstation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Santa Monica Studio’s Yumi Yang,a and Vertigo’s Roy Lee. The series is a co-production between Amazon Studios and Sony Picture Television in association with Playstation Productions.
