‘Thunderbolts’: Ryan Gosling & Alexander Skarsgård Eyed For “Evil Superman” Villain Role

It looks like Marvel Studios has started casting for the villain of their upcoming ensemble film Thunderbolts. According to insider Daniel Richtman, the studio is interested in Ryan Gosling and Alexander Skarsgård for the role, which has been described as an “Evil Superman”.
Given this information and prior rumors, this villain seems likely to be Hyperion of the Squadron Supreme. Marvel comics have introduced several Superman-Esque characters, but Hyperion has taken on a more antagonistic role in recent years.

The casting grid states the studio is searching for a male lead between 30 and 50. They are a conflicted and powerful villain described as an Evil Superman.
Florence Pugh is set to lead the Thunderbtols as Yelena Belova and will be joined by Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost from Ant-Man and the Wasp, David Harbour’s Red Guardian and Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster from Black Widow, Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine will supervise the group.
Jake Schreier is currently attached to direct the project. Previously, he worked on various music videos, including Kanye West’s “Follow God” and “Closed on Sunday” for Jesus Is King, and “I Know Alone” by Haim. Eric Pearson, who worked on Black Widow, is writing the screenplay for the film.
