Anna Kendrick To Make Her Directorial Debut With ‘The Dating Game’

From Twilight to Pitch Perfect to Trolls, Anna Kendrick is definitely a household name. However, it appears the multitalented actress wants to try her hand at working behind the camera now. As first reported by Deadline, Anna Kendrick will make her directorial debut with a new film in the works titled The Dating Game.

Kendrick will be pulling double duty for the film as she will star in it as well. Additionally, Deadline reports that Don’t Breathe star Daniel Zovatto will co-star alongside Kendrick. Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios is financing the feature in collaboration with Vertigo Entertainment and BoulderLight Pictures with production currently underway in Vancouver. Previously, director Chloe Okuno was attached to helm the feature for Netflix but things change.

The movie’s script hails from Ian MacAllister McDonald’s celebrated Black List offering. The movie’s story will be based on the bizarre true story of the serial killer Rodney Alcala. In the middle of a horrifying killing spree in 1978, Alcala competed on and won a date on the game show The Dating Game. Kendrick will play Cheryl Bradshaw, the contestant with who Alcala won a chaperoned date. However, Bradshaw, fortunately, cancels the date. Two years later, Alcala was sentenced to death for the murder of five women and the attempted murder of a 12-year-old girl.

Kendrick achieved a bevy of recognition for Up in the Air, which earned her an Academy Award. Additionally, the actress touts roles in films like Trolls World Tour, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Into the Woods. Most recently, Kendrick leads the cast for Netflix’s sci-fi thriller Stowaway. Up next, Kendrick stars in Alice, Darling, which will receive a wide release in 2023 after a stand-out performance at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival.
