One of the most beloved comedies in movie history is getting the reboot treatment over at Paramount. As first reported by Deadline, a Naked Gun reboot is in the works with Liam Neeson attached to lead the film’s cast.
Per the initial report, The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer will direct the feature. Schaffer is a longtime comedic writer who recently helmed Disney’s Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand (Dolittle) are penning the script with Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins on board as executive producers.

The Naked Gun franchise consists of several American crime spoof comedies, based on an original story written by the comedy filmmaking trio Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker. The plot centers around less-than-intelligent Det. Sgt. Franklin “Frank” Drebin played by Leslie Nielsen. The series includes one television series and three theatrical films, grossing over $477 million worldwide.
Over the course of his career, Liam Neeson has received several accolades, including nominations for an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and two Tony Awards. In 2020, he was placed 7th on The Irish Times’ list of Ireland’s 50 Greatest Film Actors. Most recently, the actor has made cameo appearances in hit TV shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Atlanta. Up next, Neeson will star alongside Ciarán Hinds in In the Land of Saints and Sinners.
