‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’: Utkarsh Ambudkar To Play King Bumi

One of Aang’s closest allies has reportedly been cast in the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series. According to Knight Edge Media, actor Utkarsh Ambudkar has been tapped to portray King Bumi in the series.
Bumi is the King of Omashu and one of Aang’s friends from before he was frozen in the iceberg. A major supporting character in the animated series Bumi offered Aang and the Gaang guidance and supported them during their journey to defeat the Fire Nation.
Ambudkar is an actor and musician who has appeared in a number of projects, including Pitch Perfect and, most recently, Free Guy. King Bumi, while an older character, is still very active, so it makes sense the series has cast a younger star for the role. This move will allow the character to display the same level of physicality as in the animated series.
Albert Kim serves as showrunner and will executive produce as well as write for the series. Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore will also executive produce, along with Michael Goi. Goi, Roseanne Liang, Jabbar Raisani, and Jet Wilkinson are set to serve as directors on the show. Original creators DiMartino and Konietzko were once a part of production but have since parted ways with the project over creative differences.
The series features Dallas Liu, Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, and Ian Ousley, who will play Zuko, Aang, Katara, and Sokka, respectively. In addition, Daniel Dae Kim has been tapped to play Fire Lord Ozai alongside Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Uncle Iroh.
