‘Ironheart’ To Feature Marvel Studios’ First Non-Binary Character

The fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has put an emphasis on the diverse characters and stories the world has to offer. And it seems this trend will continue with Ironheart on Disney+ as the series will introduce Marvel Studios’ first non-binary character.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, a casting grid has gone out for a “non-binary/genderqueer/genderfluid” individual in their 20s to early 30s. The character has an open ethnicity and will have a blue-collar background. Additionally, they are described as extremely intelligent, shrewd, and poised.

The character will appear in all 6 episodes of the series, so it seems they will have a very prominent role. Whoever does snag the part will join a growing cast of stars, including Dominque Thorne as Riri Williams, Lyric Ross, and Anthony Ramos.
Ironheart, aka Riri Williams, is a relatively newer character, first appearing in Invincible Iron Man #7 in 2016. She reverse-engineered Tony Stark’s armor and took on the mantle after he fell into a coma after a fight with Captain Marvel. Eventually, after Tony reclaimed the title of Iron Man, Riri took on the name Ironheart and became a member of the Champions.
Chinaka Hodge has signed on as the head writer of the series. As of now, a premiere date for the show has not been set. However, Thorne’s Riri Williams will make her MCU debut in the highly anticipated Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
