Harvey Guillén Joins DC’s ‘Blue Beetle’ In An Unknown Role

Deadline has reported that Harvey Guillén is in talks to star in a pivotal role in DC’s Blue Beetle, which is set to release in theatres on August 18, 2023. The movie was initially developed as an HBO Max original film but pivoted to a theatrical-exclusive release late last year.
After the incredible box-office success of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which had the second highest-grossing opening weekend of the COVID-19 pandemic, behind Spider-Man: No Way Home, with $134 million over the March 4th weekend, it seems like a very smart move for Warner Bros. to do more theatrical-exclusive films after last year’s hybrid releases in theatres and on HBO Mx.
Charm City Kings‘ Angel Manuel Soto will be directing, while Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who wrote the screenplay for Miss Bala, is currently writing the script. Xolo Maridueña will star as Jamie Reyes/Blue Beetle. He is known for starring in the Netflix Karate Kid follow-up series Cobra Kai as Miguel Diaz, alongside franchise veterans Ralph Macchio and William Zabka. Bruna Marquenzine and Belissa Escobedo are also joining Blue Beetle as Penny and Milagros Reyes, respectively.

It is unclear which role that Guillén will star in, as they are under wraps, but the role is considered to be a key character in the film. Guillén is known for starring in FX’s What We Do in the Shadows as Guillermo, but has also starred in films such as The Internship, Truth or Dare, and Josh Ruben’s Werewolves Within.
What do you think Guillén’s role will be? An antagonist or a side character to Maridueña’s Blue Beetle? Are you excited for the film? Let us know in the comments below!
