Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz & Shailene Woodley To Star In Michael Mann’s ‘Ferrari’ Biopic

Michael Mann is assembling an all-star group of actors for a passion project he’s been working on for nearly twenty years. As first reported by Deadline, Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz, and Shailene Woodley are among those cast in a new biopic focusing on the life of Italian racing driver and entrepreneur, Enzo Ferrari.
From Public Enemies director Michael Mann, the film will begin production in the spring of 2021. Based on Brock Yates’ 1991 book Enzo Ferrari: The Man and the Machine, Mann reworked the script originally written by the late Troy Kennedy Martin (The Italian Job). Adam Driver will portray Ferrari in the film, replacing the previously cast Hugh Jackman. Recent Oscar nominee Penélope Cruz will play Enzo’s wife Laura while Big Little Lies star Woodley will play his mistress Lina Lardi. In a statement, Mann discusses his excitement to finally bring the film together.
“Being able to have these wonderfully talented artists, actors Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz and Shailene Woodley, bring to life these unique characters on location in Modena and the Emilia-Romagna is a vision fulfilled.”

The film will reportedly focus on the summer of 1957. Settling into a life of comfort with he and his wife Laura’s car company reaching legendary status, the couple begins losing money. Additionally, their lives are turned upside down following the death of their son Dino and the emergence of 12-year-old Piero, Ferrari’s son from an affair. Furthermore, the film will lead to the famous, history-making Mille Miglia race. The 1,000-mile course is designed to be dangerous and push its participants to the brink of insanity.
Driver spent the last few years starring in a host of films. His roles in Netflix’s Marriage Story and House of Gucci earned him praise and award consideration. Moreover, his reprisal of Kylo Ren in The Rise of Skywalker helped steer the Star Wars film towards its $1.074 billion worldwide gross. Up next, Adam Driver joins Greta Gerwig in Noah Baumbach’s upcoming project. Penélope Cruz recently earned an Oscar nomination for the 2021 Spanish drama film Parallel Mothers. Additionally, the actress touts a role in the recent action hit The 355. Up next, she joins Luis Tosar in On The Fringe. Meanwhile, Shailene Woodley earned Golden Globe and Emmy consideration for her role in HBO’s Big Little Lies. Recently, she starred alongside the fast-rising Jenna Ortega in the HBO Max feature The Fallout. Woodley will next appear alongside Jack Whitehall in the sci-fi comedy Robots.
