Will Arnett Replaces Armie Hammer In Taika Waititi’s ‘Next Goal Wins’

Following some pretty horrific sexual assault allegations made against Armie Hammer, Hollywood swiftly responded by removing him from all upcoming projects. Previously, Hammer was ousted from his co-starring role opposite Jennifer Lopez in the upcoming action-comedy Shotgun Wedding, with Josh Duhamel stepping in. Additionally, Miles Teller is replacing the actor in the upcoming aking Godfather series The Offer. Now, as first reported by Deadline, Hammer is losing yet another role in Taika Waititi’s latest film Next Goal Wins, to be replaced by Will Arnett.
Arnett joins the cast already featuring Michael Fassbender, Elisabeth Moss, and Young Rock star Uli Latukefu. Taika Waititi is directing the feature after co-writing the screenplay with Iain Morris (Flight of the Conchords). Filming began in Honolulu in November 2019 with recent reshoots featuring Arnett stepping into the role previously belonging to Hammer.

Next Goal Wins is based on the 2014 documentary of the same name by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison. The premise follows Dutch-American coach Thomas Rongenl leading the American Samoa football team to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Fassbender will portray Rongen in Waititi’s adaptation of the documentary.
Will Arnett is a fan-favorite thanks to his memorable role in the hit sitcom Arrested Development. Additionally, the actor has endeared himself to moviegoers thanks to roles in films like Blades of Glory, The Lego Batman Movie, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Most recently, that multihyphenate serves as the host of the competition series Lego Masters as well as voicing the main character in the animated wrestling film Rumble.
