Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman has been filming for some time now, and it appears the first set photos have finally surfaced. New images from the site have revealed what appears to be a mysterious new setting.
At Hankley Common, near Elstead in Surrey, production crews and sets were spotted by individuals in the area. The production has since been confirmed to be for The Sandman, which has left many to speculate what was being filmed at the site.

The most notable feature of the set was a field of dark black crosses and what appeared to be a dark gate of some kind. Additionally, fake bones and skeletons were seen near the location.

While it is not confirmed what location this set could be, some have theorized it could be the series’ take on Hell. Morpheus’s journey through Hell to reclaim his helm featured much of the domain’s gruesome scenery. It seems most of it will be recreated in post-production, so this set could just be the groundwork for the setting.
The Sandman series was given an 11 episode order from Warner Bros. and Netflix. Gaiman is set to executive produce with David S. Goyer and writer/showrunner Allan Heinberg. Production on the series was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which luckily gave the creative team time to perfect the scripts. Thankfully though, production on the highly anticipated series is finally underway.
